Offset the CO₂ of your trip with Trinakria Tours

At Trinakria Tours, we are committed to sustainability and the fight against climate change through two innovative projects related to CO₂ offsetting. The first consists of offering our travelers the possibility of acquiring certified carbon credits to fully or partially offset the emissions generated by their trips. The second project focuses on the creation of Mediterranean gardens, an initiative that not only contributes to CO₂ absorption but also addresses key issues in our destinations, such as forest and agricultural desertification and drought.

OFFSET THE CO OF YOUR TRIP

While the best CO₂ is the one that is not produced, we acknowledge that traveling is one of our greatest pleasures. And since we know it’s yours too, we have decided to do our part to offset the footprint we leave on each journey. So, while flying may not be eco-friendly, at least we try to make a difference!

Below, we present our estimates of CO₂ emissions for some of the most common flights used for our trips. But don’t worry, each person can offset as much as they want—all of the CO, half of it, or even double! Because in the end, even though it may seem like a small gesture, it is the sum of these small efforts that can truly make a difference.

Route Total Distance (km, round trip) CO Emissions (kg, round trip) Credits Needed (1 credit = 250 kg)
Barcelona – Bari ~2,400 ~370 2
Barcelona – Palermo ~2,000 ~308 2
Barcelona – Florence ~1,600 ~246 1
Barcelona – Athens ~4,000 ~616 3
Madrid – Bari ~3,400 ~524 3
Madrid – Palermo ~3,000 ~462 2
Madrid – Florence ~2,600 ~400 2
Madrid – Athens ~5,000 ~770 4

Notes:

  • The additional cost of €1 per credit (e.g., €9 instead of €8) is intended to cover administrative expenses related to managing and purchasing CO₂ offset credits.
  • The offset credits we use are certified by Carborea, a recognized certification entity that uses blockchain technology to ensure the uniqueness and transparency of each acquired credit.
  • The actual cost of the credits is €8, and the additional margin we apply is used to cover our operational expenses. If this margin generates additional profits, Trinakria Tours commits to reinvesting these funds in more CO offset credits or other sustainability projects in the regions where we operate. These initiatives may include local projects that promote environmental protection and reduce the carbon footprint.

This strategy aims to ensure that we can continue promoting sustainability and supporting projects that benefit both our clients and local communities.

With this approach, we can make every flight count for the planet! 🌍✈

CREATION OF MEDITERRANEAN GARDENS

Trinakria Tours firmly believes that every company, no matter how small, should commit to reinvesting part of its profits in direct actions that benefit both the environment and local communities. In this regard, we have launched a high-impact project: the creation of Mediterranean gardens in our destinations. The goal is not only to contribute significantly to CO₂ offsetting but also to address deeper local challenges.

This project begins in 2025 with the creation of an olive grove in the Salento region (Puglia), in southeastern Italy, through a partnership with the association Olivami. Initially, 30 olive trees will be planted, with a commitment to expanding the grove each year. This initiative will not only serve to offset the CO₂ emissions generated by our tourism activities but will also have a direct impact on restoring the landscape and agricultural economy of the region.

In Salento, the Xylella fastidiosa bacterium has devastated around 80% of olive groves, leaving an economic and environmental void. Through our participation in the Olivami project, we contribute to the reforestation of the area, helping to restore the olive groves while supporting the local economy by enabling local farmers to manage the new trees.

Over the years, we plan to expand this initiative. By 2026, our next project will be the creation of oak forests in southeastern Sicily, on public lands, in collaboration with environmental organizations dedicated to tree planting. These oak forests aim to combat wildfires, which are increasingly frequent in the Mediterranean, as well as desertification and drought affecting the region.

While these projects may seem small, we are convinced that the sum of many small actions can make a huge difference. Every Mediterranean garden we create will not only contribute to environmental sustainability but will also have a positive impact on local communities, demonstrating that responsible tourism can be a powerful tool for conservation and territorial regeneration.
