Trinakria Tours is a licensed boutique tour operator based in Barcelona, registered under licence GC-1441. Founded in 2006, we design tailor-made journeys across Sicily, Sardinia, Puglia, Tuscany and Greece with the support of specialists who know each destination first hand.
Most of our journeys are private, tailor-made self-drive itineraries, combining route planning, handpicked independent accommodation, car hire and selected local experiences. We organise each journey directly and provide support before and during the trip; Trinakria Tours is not a booking marketplace or comparison website.
Our work began in Sicily. ShineSicily was the original editorial project through which we shared our knowledge of the island. It forms part of Trinakria Tours’ history and is not a separate tour operator.
As a boutique tour operator, we don’t believe in “one size fits all.” We curate experiences for travelers who seek the hidden layers of a destination—its authentic flavors, its untold history, and its silent landscapes.
Each journey is designed individually, adapting every itinerary to the preferences and sensibilities of each traveler or group. Our goal is not to offer standard packages, but to create unique travel experiences that reflect the character of both the destination and the traveler.

Our Method & Impact
We work with a trusted network of collaborators and local experts throughout the Mediterranean: charming boutique hotels, countryside accommodations, local guides, food producers and creators of authentic experiences. They help us preserve the essence of each territory and offer a form of hospitality that is deeply Mediterranean.
In recent years we have also embraced an approach inspired by Regenerative Tourism. We believe travel can be enriching not only for the traveler, but also for the communities and landscapes that make the journey possible. For this reason we support cultural, social and agricultural initiatives that seek to generate real value in the territories where we operate.
Our way of working is simple: we listen, design and refine each itinerary until it reflects exactly the journey our travelers imagine. We like to think that the true success of our work comes when travelers arrive at their destination and simply say:

Boris Bonanno
Director and Founder of Trinakria Tours
Boris is a Sicilian entrepreneur based in Barcelona and the founder of Trinakria Tours (2006), a boutique operator specializing in bespoke journeys across Sicily and the Mediterranean. With a diverse professional background — from professional kitchens to technical support and social marketing — he has shaped a vision of travel grounded in authenticity, sustainability, and positive territorial impact. A strong advocate of regenerative tourism, he supports projects that reinvest part of the company’s profits into local communities, including research into innovative plant-based polymer materials for intensive agriculture. Passionate about Mediterranean culture, he balances his entrepreneurial work with gastronomy and outdoor living.
GIOVANNI BUCCHIERI
Partner and Head of the Customer and Booking Area
Giovanni is a partner and Head of Client Services and Booking at Trinakria Tours. Originally from Ragusa in southeastern Sicily, he has been based in Barcelona since 2008, when he joined the company. With a professional background in tourism and experience in international hospitality and at the headquarters of Hertz in Dublin, he has contributed to the development of projects in Sardinia, Puglia, and Tuscany. Approachable and solution-oriented, he guides travelers in planning bespoke Mediterranean travel and authentic local experiences, ensuring attentive, tailor-made service. A mountain enthusiast, he enjoys hiking and gravel cycling in his free time.
TASSOS KASSANDRINOS
Travel Curator for Greece
Tassos is a creative tourism specialist and travel designer with a deep connection to Greece. After living for more than a decade in Barcelona and meeting the Trinakria Tours team through Ass. Cult. La Miranda, he returned to Greece to collaborate professionally as Head of Greece travel design. Based in Kalamata (Peloponnese), he and his partner founded their own company focused on authentic and creative travel experiences. Tassos curates alternative routes and cultural activities across mainland Greece and Crete, designing bespoke itineraries that reveal the country’s true character through sustainable, immersive, and locally driven travel.

Two beautiful agriturismi, peaceful countryside days with hours at the pool for the kids, evening strolls through charming villages, and amazing food. And the best part? It didn’t even cost a fortune — especially considering how late we booked and that August is the toughest (and priciest!) month to travel in Italy. We had a really great trip, everything flowed seamlessly, from the reservation process to final checkout. Boris who runs the company was extremely informative and helpful and even organised a replacement car within a couple of hours when we realised we needed a slightly bigger vehicle.(at no extra cost) Great experience ,we fell in love with the island, it’s breathtaking scenery , cuisine and the people we met along the way! Holiday in Sicily was amazing. Got a genuine experience having it planned by a Sicilian… Felt like we were at home from the moment we arrived! (Sea urchin spaghetti is a must, can’t eat better than that anywhere.)
I spent 6 amazing days in Sicily with Trinakria Tours. I arrived by plane in Catania and started my trip from there. The best part was visiting the Eolian Islands. Each island was different, but I completely fell in love with Salina. It was calm, green, and very beautiful. I enjoyed walking around, taking photos, and just relaxing. Trinakria Tours organized everything very well, so I didn’t have to worry about anything. It was a perfect mix of nature and discovery. I really want to go back one day.

We are a boutique tour operator with a strong local focus — not a typical online agency.
While you can easily contact us online, our work is based on first-hand knowledge of the destinations and close relationships with local partners. We design each journey individually, rather than offering pre-set packages or automated bookings.
What matters to us is not the channel, but the approach: every trip is personally designed, carefully curated and supported by real expertise on the ground.

Our private tours are tailor-made journeys created exclusively for you and the people travelling with you. They are not group departures and do not follow a fixed programme.
Most of our travellers choose a self-drive journey: you travel independently in a hire car, following a route designed around your interests, your pace and the time you have available. Flights are booked separately, while we arrange the accommodation, car hire and other services included in your proposal.
Where it adds value, we can include private local guides, transfers, wine tastings, cooking classes and other experiences. A private guide does not normally accompany you throughout the journey unless this has been specifically requested and included.
The itineraries shown on our website are starting points. Every journey is adapted to the traveller, drawing on our first-hand knowledge of Sicily, Sardinia, Puglia, Tuscany and Greece.
